Late Summer & Early Fall Happenings

Well, amazingly, it's already been 2 months since we moved down here to South Carolina. Life isn't settling down (why would it?), but it's starting to feel like home.  : )

August brought the beginning of first grade for Rachel and the girls. Almost as soon as we moved here the girls began asking when they were going to start school, so we figured we'd just get an early start on things while they were interested. : ) South Carolina's requirements are a bit more restrictive than Montana's, but everything seems to be going well.

One of our biggest prayers in moving down here was that Jason would be able to continue his web design business and keep the clients he had in Montana. Praise Jesus, this has been going well. Besides web work, Jason also spent a few weeks building bookshelves. This was a little stressful, as the commute was 45 minutes one way, but we were glad for the extra income!

We have continued to attend the weekly Bible study at our friends, the Haverkorn's, house, and it has continued to bless us. : ) As far as the church plant goes, the start-up date has been set for October 20th. Please keep our families in prayer as we follow our Father in this adventure. : )

"Jesus… said to them, “Let the little children come to Me. Don’t stop them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these." Mark 10:14

Another adventure we began a couple weeks ago, was the one of neighborhood kid ministry. While on a family walk one night a little boy rode his bike up next to us and struck up a conversation. Two days later he came knocking on our front door asking to play with our kids. Since then word has spread and we've had six different neighbor kids, ages 3-10, playing in our house. Sometimes they even stay for dinner! While we've invited them to stay for our nightly Bible reading/family song time, only one of them has accepted. We are blessed to be a light to these kids (and hopefully their parents).

Feeding the starving masses some homemade chicken noodle soup.

That being said, the influx of children has been a little overwhelming. On weekends they knock on our door as early as 10am, and school days they come over as soon as they get home and stay until bedtime. This has made family time and disciplining our children a little more challenging. We are working on setting boundaries, while still being welcoming. Please keep us in your prayers as we minister to these kids! And of course, please keep the kids in your prayers!

"The Word became flesh and took up residence among us. We observed His glory, the glory as the One and Only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth." John 1:14

This past week we built a "Jesus Tent" (as Judah calls it) in mosquito land our back yard to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot). This particular festival reminds us of how Yahweh brought the Israelites out of Egypt and was continually with them during their 40 years in the desert. It also reminds us how He came in human form (Jesus!) to "tabernacle" with us! Building the sukkah was quite the project, but our kids (and the neighbor kids) enjoyed it. It is still a struggle for Rachel to want to spend any amount of time in our yard, but the trial of mosquitoes is a good reminder that life wasn't easy for the Israelites in the wilderness either. . . .

Well, friends, that's about what's up in our little corner of the world. We hope you all are enjoying the beginning of fall!
