Vladik, Mera & Maya

On the seventh day of the camp we noticed that another, smaller tent had been set up near the front of the camp. That day four new campers showed up. There were two teens, a young girl, and a woman. We found out from talking with Alexi, one of the directors, that they came from Chicitga, a city of about 300 in Northern Siberia, by Alaska. The woman, Vika, was a friend of a friend of Alexi’s wife. When she heard about the camp, she decided it would be good for her to come for a time of spiritual renewal.

Vika worked in the kitchen the rest of the camp, while the three kids joined the others in the daily activities. The youngest girl, Maya, became good friends with Havah and spent most of her free time playing little games and coloring with her. When Rachel asked Maya the names of her older brother and sister, she replied, “Vladik and Mera. And my aunt’s name is Vika.”

“Where is your mama?” asked Rachel.

“She’s dead.”

Despite this fact, these children were incredibly optimistic and cheerful during the whole camp. Maya was a joy to get to know, and Myera’s smile and hello were always encouraging. Please pray that these children will continue to grow in the knowledge of God’s loving care for them and that they would be a light and a blessing wherever the go.

During the final evening service Vika and Myera performed a traditional dance.
