Last week the little Baptist church we've been attending celebrated its 14th birthday. Last night we were given the history of our church by Zhenya Petrovich....
Around 15 or so years ago some American missionaries in Blagoveshchensk started offering free English lessons. As the lessons progressed the missionaries began introducing Bible stories for the students to study. As a result, some of the students left. The ones who stayed increased in their interest of the Bible and "Revival Baptist Church" was born.
One of the students who stayed was a young believer named Andre. He and his wife, Lena, who is an English teacher, began attending the lessons hoping to improve their English skills. Today Andre is the pastor of Revival Baptist.
The more people we are introduced to at church, the more amazed we have been at how many of them know English (even if just a little bit). Now we know why!
